NEWS: Stalwart Sons / Self Defense Family split 7" Announced

This record has been in the works for a long time, and we’ve been keeping it under-wraps lest it never see the light of day. Well now Revolution Winter is over the moon to announce the split between Cohoes, New York’s Self Defense Family and Calgary, Alberta’s Stalwart Sons: two of the most staunchly forward-moving and stubbornly smart bands separated by the 49th.

Should be out before Ghost Throats.

Revolution Winter is stoked to announce the upcoming release from Ottawa’s incredible Shahman. The sinister twin brothers Johnson, with 8 new songs of the large and the open. Whatever idea you have about what a duo may sound like, toss it right out the window. Shahman wield power like an army, weave immense depth and tension with a near psychic interplay that I assume only twins can attain. Recorded by Steve Laughton @ The Hive during their Western tour in November.

REWIN009: Segwei - Soul Deep

Revolution Winter is over the moon to announce the release of the new LP from Tokyo, Japan’s SEGWEI entitled Soul Deep. After a couple EP’s and a split with End of a Year (Self Defense Family), Soul Deep is the band’s first full length; 11 songs of churning revolution summer-style post-hardcore. Rites of Spring is an obvious touchstone, but that does nothing to describe how absolutley cathartic the album is, how mature and heady, how curiously Japanese, how comeplely of its own it is to Segwei.

And if the package weren’t sweet enough, the LP includes a full-size, full-colour booklet of lyrics and photos.

Leap forward in the Quantum Leap, surpassing the selection pressure on the Selection Pressure, crossed the line in Crossin ‘The Line, through the equinox in the Alpha Jerk, become free Freewheel, creeping underground Nethervein, we seeded at Scattering Of The Seeds, to reach the point deep Deep End, penetrating the enemy with Poison Darts, touch God in Ubiquity, returning from the quest at Hole In The Sky.

By placing more emphasis on the spiritual side, the recording of all 11 tracks, 42 minutes to have pursued the possibility of music format agnostic. Rather than a negative status quo, by the imagination and creativity, a piece of the next era!

Took some doing, but this baby is finally hot off the press.

Cold Water hails from Calgary, Alberta. We call ourselves “country” but we end up playing more fiercely than that should probably lead you to believe. Some of us are born out of post-hardcore bands (a couple of us also play in Stalwart Sons) and that’s translated into it. “Wolf Willow” comes as a slightly psych, but altogether frosty jam of heavy tremolo and ghostly backgrounds galore, whereas “Buffalo Beans” begins as a sombre number with a naked voice over a soft guitar that explodes into a raucus prayer. The 7” is out now, release shows coming early March. (March 8 @ Bohemia in Edmonton w/ Field & Stream, March 10 @ Local 510 w/ Ryan Bourne)

Calgary’s most dangerous band? Probably. So dangerous they could barely keep it together? Seems like it. The final recording from Crow Eater, Seasick, clocks in at under 8 minutes, but those 8 minutes are going to be the most fury-filled, gross rippers you’ll cram into your ears all year. Showing all those mysterious, throw-back clowns how it should be done.

The new Crow Eater tape is finally out, ya’ll. BART032! Long time in the making. Check below for a jam, or above for more info. Head over to the Revolution Winter online store and order one now.

After months of record plant debacles, we just got the test presses for the Cold Water 7” (REWIN008) and they sound amazing. 2 jams of gloom and gruff and almost country, both songs named after prairie flowers: Wolf Willow b/w Buffalo Beans. Expect that along with a bunch of shows from them soon.

Not sure if this got announced ever, but the new LP from Tokyo, Japan’s Segwei will be out on Revolution Winter (REWIN009). At the plant as we type. We are really excited about this one, expanding our horizons across the ocean. This one is going to be incredible. Stay tuned.

It’s finally here! Calgary’s Stalwart Sons deliver their sophmore LP Stay Cold.

Stalwart Sons staunchly following that vision that is solely theirs, exploring territory none tread. Songwriting, a large deparure from things past; rhythmically pulsating; vocally, belted out and gruff; lyrically, unabashedly reflecting on the country, much like the waters of Moraine Lake emblazoned on the cover. Stalwart Sons pursue such a singular vision, angry yet warm & enveloping, unbending in outlook but inviting in the sense they want you to join along. Call it post-hardcore Canadiana, but really call it a piece of home.

Been a whirlwind of a couple of months, Bart bands have been killin it. Mahria, Todos, Book tours, NEEDS proving themselves more dangerous than Fucked Up, KNOTS releases went swimmingly, Stalwart gearing up for much. So many new records are on deck, too much to be excited about.

The new LP from Stalwart Sons, Stay Cold (REWIN007), is going to be out any day now. Stalwart Sons are playing a few shows, Calgary & Edmonton, in release of Stay Cold. Make sure to roll to one of those shows and pick up that heavy slab.They’re going to be heading out to the East Cost for the Halifax Pop Explosion, if you’re out there, do not miss their show with Cousins on Oct 20.

BART032 is on deck. The newest recordings from Calgary’s Crow Eater entitled Seasick, 4 short stabs of absolutely devastating hardcore. Much grosser and faster than the stuff before, if you can believe that!

Repress of GreyScreen’s Thrillogy is also coming out right away. Those things have been selling like hot cakes, until then, enjoy this video of some clown dancing in a fountain while GreyScreen performs.

Cold Water, the “country” side-project of Stalwart Sons members have recently recorded a few tracks for a 7”. That should be seeing a release closer to winter.

BART028: Knots - White River of White Lies

Brand new stuff from Neal Moignard’s songwriting project Knots. White River of White Lies is one chillingly haunting and stunningly beautiful collection, written and recorded during Moignard’s endless travels across this country. These six new songs come as a major departure from Knots’ first self-released cd The Blistering Sun, the Pale Moon, Hahahaha. Equal parts a Mount Eerie-like embrace and the distance of a freezing cold starkness.

This tape has been in the works for a long while, so we’re really excited and hounoured to be releasing this thing into the world. Check out the bandcamp or scroll down to hear a new jam below.
